Lesaffre signs an agreement with Sungain Group to establish a new partnership in Chinese Yeast and Yeast extract Industry

Pursuing its expansion strategy on Chinese market, Lesaffre, a key global company in the field of yeast and fermentation, has signed an agreement with the Chinese group Sungain.

 

During the state visit of French Republic President François Hollande, invited by Chinese President Xi Jiping, Mr Antoine Baule, Lesaffre’s Chief Executive Officer, and Mr Lao Jian Ming, Chairman of Sungain Group, signed an agreement in The Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Lesaffre is a global key player in the field of yeast and fermentation, with 162 years of history and the most advanced technology in yeast industry. Sungain group is mainly engaged in cane sugar production and related industries. Sungain Yeast and Sungain Yeast Extract, subsidiaries of Sungain Group, are the rising stars in the Chinese yeast and yeast extract industry. Consistently with their development strategy, Lesaffre and Sungain Group signed an agreement to share resources, leverage on their synergies, and establish a win-win collaboration. Lesaffre acquired the majority shareholding of Sungain Yeast and Sungain Yeast Extract by capital increase.

Sungain Yeast and Sungain Yeast Extract are based in Chongzuo, 150km south west of Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi province. Chongzuo is known as the sugar city in China, the most important base for sugar cane production, with exceptional agronomic advantages and access to raw materials. Sungain Group is one of top 8 sugar producers in Guangxi, and is known in PRC for the quality of its industrial units, its concept of circular economy for sugar industry “Resource Saving, Environment Friendly” and its leadership. Sungain Yeast is widely recognized in the market and clients by the operational philosophy of “Customer Respect, Constant Improvement”, and has become the biggest domestic private yeast company in China.

One of Lesaffre’s core commitments is to run a business respectful of the planet and humankind, while still remaining economically profitable. Lesaffre has been present on the Chinese market since the 1980’s with its premium brand Saf-Instant. In 1999, the group acquired a yeast plant in Ming Guang, 300 km west of Shanghai. In 2006, Lesaffre established 2 joint-ventures companies with Donta Group to build Guangxi Danbaoli Yeast Co., Ltd. and Guangxi Yi Pin Xian Biotechnology Co., Ltd factories in Laibin, Guangxi. Lesaffre relies on its 4 Baking Center™ in Shanghai, Hong-Kong, Beijing and GuangZhou to develop applications and provide technical support to its customers in mantou and bread making, a culinary center in Shanghai to develop food savory applications, and multiple cooperation’s in China in the field of animal care and biotechnologies. It employs 950 people in China.
